Journal of Open Initiatives in Academic Libraries (JOI) is an open access, international journal, hosted by the Texas Digital Library on Open Journal Systems (OJS), which welcomes research across all disciplines to help promote understanding of open scholarship practices that are initiated and supported by academic libraries. We aim to advance scientific communication and research in sharing best practices for open scholarship endeavors, providing a roadmap for best practices, current trends, and future directions of open scholarly practices, including open science, open pedagogy, open education, open publishing, open data, etc. 
Who we are looking for: 

An expert in research or researcher support services in advancing open scholarship initiatives in academic libraries. In particular, we are looking for individuals with expertise in any of the following:  

  • research data management 
  • scholarly communications 
  • copyright 
  • grant proposal support 
  • student learning/teaching 
  • Open access publishing 
  • open initiatives in higher education/academic library  
  • Inter-disciplinary collaboration for open access  

Candidates with prior editorial or peer review experience are preferred, but not required.  

An ideal editorial board member will be able to work collaboratively with the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial team, be keen to innovate and explore publishing opportunities for JOI in Academic Libraries in their specialist area, and be able to effectively promote JOI in Academic Libraries. 


As an Editorial Board Member, you are responsible for: 

  • Reviewing 70% of the submissions assigned to you in order to ensure the quality of the manuscripts that will be published.  
  • Providing support to peer reviewers and authors to review recommendations, clarify decisions to authors, and manage editors. 
  • Participating in the Editorial Board Meeting, where possible, and to liaise with the Chief Editor and Managing Editors on the progress and development of the journal. 

Editorial Board Members will serve for a fixed term of 2 years. Editorial Board Members will be acknowledged for their work in the journal and on the Journal website. 


  • An annual certificate, detailing your work for the journal. 
  • Acknowledgement on the journal’s site masthead. 
  • Expedited review for any authored manuscripts submitted to JOI. 
  • Participating in advancing the study of open access initiatives in academia.
